Completed and furnished a dual-purpose Library and Community Centre, creating a dedicated space for literacy, local governance, and social cohesion.
Area of Focus:
Basic Education and Literacy

In the heart of the Gomoa Abasa community in the Central Region, a new landmark stands as a testament to the power of collective action. The Rotary Club of Accra-South has officially completed and furnished a dual-purpose Library and Community Centre, creating a dedicated space for literacy, local governance, and social cohesion.
Bridging the Literacy Gap
For many students in rural communities, the path to academic success is often obstructed by a lack of quiet study spaces and access to diverse reading materials. By building and fully furnishing this library, we have provided the youth of Gomoa Abasa with more than just a room—we have given them a "window to the world."
The facility is designed to be a vibrant learning hub featuring:
Curated Book Collections: Shelves stocked with both academic texts and engaging literature to foster a lifelong love for reading.
Modern Study Infrastructure: Ergonomic furniture and well-lit reading areas that provide a conducive environment for students preparing for national exams.
Digital Readiness: A layout built to accommodate future technological integrations, ensuring the community remains connected to the global digital landscape.
The Heartbeat of the Community
Beyond the bookshelves, the facility serves as a Community Centre—a versatile space where the residents of Gomoa Abasa can gather to deliberate on local issues, host workshops, and celebrate cultural milestones. In many ways, this centre acts as the "parliament" of the town, where traditional wisdom meets modern community development.
By housing both a library and a meeting hall under one roof, the project strengthens the bond between generations. It allows elders to pass down traditions in the same building where the youth are mastering the skills of the future.
A Legacy of Service Above Self
The commissioning of the Gomoa Abasa Library and Community Centre is a proud entry in our Silver Jubilee ledger of impact. This project aligns perfectly with Rotary’s focus on Basic Education and Literacy, proving that when we invest in a community’s intellectual infrastructure, we are investing in its long-term economic stability.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the chiefs and people of Gomoa Abasa for their cooperation, and to our fellow Rotarians whose contributions turned this vision into a physical reality. As the doors of this centre open, so too do the opportunities for every child and resident in the district.
