Healthy Communities Project Ada Medical Outreach

Healthy Communities Project Ada Medical Outreach

Completed and furnished a dual-purpose Library and Community Centre, creating a dedicated space for literacy, local governance, and social cohesion.

Area of Focus:

Economic and Community Development

Geographical disadvantage, financial inaccessibility, lack of funding, inadequate medical supplies and personnel shortages have left the reach, availability and effect of healthcare access in many suburban and rural communities disappointingly limited and the vulnerable populace of Ada East face critical challenges to remain healthy. • Consequently, such disadvantaged communities in Ada East district especially in the 24 island communities in the district are underserved. This is much evident in the lack of adequate health care delivery services available to the people in this area. The main goal of this project is to promote improved healthcare access to underserved communities in partnership with local healthcare providers, vendors and benevolent groups/agencies. Improve wellbeing through health screening of diseases like malaria, TB, typhoid, blood sugar, blood pressure etc

Community Assessment: How the project team learned about the community’s needs

The Rotary Clubs collaborated with the Ada East District Hospital Health, benevolent institutions and identified health care supplies vendors to help improve healthcare delivery services through medical outreach by screening selected communities especially the island communities of various diseases, undertake blood donation exercise and NHIS registration campaigns and also support the hospital by renovating the maternity ward rest rooms infrastructure.

Project Impact: How the project will help the community after the project ends

We educated the community based associations to take preventive education roles during the outreach to enable them own the process after the campaign

Sustainability: How the benefits of the project will continue afterward

Rather than simply providing care for a limited period, or alleviate a specific problem we worked with several stakeholders to build the capacity of the Ada community with the aim of shifting responsibility for public health onto the public itself. • There was full participation of the chiefs and leaders of the community as well as the government agencies and representatives • We engaged the community leaders in the monitoring process as well as preventive and awareness communication protocols to regular communication with the community • Educated the community based associations to take preventive education roles during the outreach to enable them own the process after the campaign
