In our ongoing mission to foster holistic education and equip students with the tools of the future, the Rotary Club of Accra-South visited Zion College (ZICO) in Anloga, Volta Region, to facilitate a comprehensive career guidance project and conduct an assessment of the facilities.

This initiative underscores our club’s commitment to ensuring that rural academic institutions are not left behind in the rapidly evolving digital age.

The career guidance session saw Rotarians, Zico Past Students and Selected Guests engaged with approximately 1,400 Form 1 and 2 students—70% of whom were female—to explore the intersection of passion, purpose, and professional growth.

Speakers shared insights into various industries, including marketing, engineering, law, insurance, fabric manufacturing, content creation, entertainment, and the arts.

By emphasizing the importance of a growth mindset, critical thinking, and ethical digital citizenship, we aimed to inspire these young leaders to view technology not merely as a consumer tool, but as a powerful catalyst for innovation and problem-solving.

During the event, Rotarian President Klenam Fiadzoe encouraged students to embrace the advent of AI and technology, regardless of their chosen career paths. He highlighted how emerging technologies are reshaping the future of work by increasing efficiency and accelerating complex processes.

A core component of the visit was to assess the school’s existing ICT infrastructure. As the global economy pivots toward artificial intelligence, access to reliable digital facilities has become a fundamental requirement for academic excellence.

During our walkthrough the ICT laboratory, we evaluated the technical requirements necessary to transform their current setup into a modern hub for digital literacy.

Our assessment focused on three key pillars:

  • Hardware: Identifying the need for upgraded computing units capable of handling modern software and AI research tools.

  • Connectivity: Assessing bandwidth requirements to ensure students have reliable, high-speed access to global educational resources.

  • AI Integration: Outlining a roadmap to equip the ICT lab for AI exploration, allowing students to experiment with data analysis, programming, and innovative research.

In closing, President Klenam Fiadzoe expressed gratitude to the Zion College Past Student Association, the Headmistress, the teaching staff, and the student body for their warm reception. He mentioned that the project will offer students of Zion College an early digital window to the world.

We invite all stakeholders—alumni, community leaders, and technology partners—to join us in this effort. Together, we can build a future where every student, regardless of their location, has the technology and guidance needed to become a true architect of the future.
