ACCRA, GHANA – Turning promises into physical progress, the Rotary Club of Accra-South has officially commenced renovation works at the James Camp Prison kitchen. This project marks the next phase of our club’s deep commitment to improving the living conditions and dignity of those within the correctional system.
This milestone comes on the heels of our highly successful "Good Ol’ Days" fundraiser held last year. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our partners, members, and the community, we raised approximately GH¢85,000, every cedi of which has been earmarked to transform the camp’s culinary facilities into a modern, hygienic, and efficient space.
Building on a Foundation of Health
The kitchen renovation is not our first footprint at James Camp. It follows the successful completion of our health intervention, where we upgraded and stocked the camp’s infirmary, elevating it to the status of a fully functional clinic. By providing essential medical equipment and supplies, we ensured that the prison community—both inmates and staff—has access to better healthcare, a fundamental human right.
The Road Ahead: Commissioning and Beyond
Work is moving at a steady pace, and we are excited to announce that we expect to officially commission the James Camp Kitchen project by mid-March 2026. This facility will significantly improve the quality of meal preparation and the overall health standards within the camp.
Our New Challenge: The Mankrong CHPS Compound
While we celebrate the progress at James Camp, our eyes are already set on our next major humanitarian goal. For the 2025-26 Rotary year, we have identified a critical need at the Mankrong CHPS compound.
The facility, which serves as a vital first point of medical contact for the Mankrong community, is in urgent need of a total overhaul. Our mission is to raise GH¢300,000 to:
Completely renovate the existing structure.
Modernize medical equipment to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
Ensure a conducive environment for both healthcare workers and patients.
Join Us in Making an Impact
The transition from James Camp to Mankrong reflects the Rotary Club of Accra-South’s "Unite for Good" spirit. We have proven that when we come together—whether through a nostalgic fundraiser or a global grant—we create sustainable change.
